BEFORE THE NEW FLESH I MUST COME I NEW BONES

We are creating a new body. Something more beautiful and powerful than they told us we could be. Post-shame, post-fear, post-doubt, post-gender, pro-human

This project centers bodily differences as rich soil from which infinite potential forms could emerge. Adaptable and inventive; like the primordial soup from which all life originated, there is no limit to how many selves you can be.

Prosthetic limbs tend to be purely practical; lacking aesthetic and conceptual consideration. Their function aims to replicate existing human biology and typically falls short. This attempt to return to what once was - or emulate what already is, frames limb difference as an objective loss wherein the new body part could at best be equal to the standard parts of able-bodied people, but never better. We reject that hierarchy by imagining alternate physiologies with innately different abilities and intended uses.

To alter our bodies is to alter the nature of our reality. To adapt, evolve, and assume new forms is one of the most fundamental expressions of life. Eventually, physical conditions that were once considered setbacks will be recontextualized as an opportunity instead of a limitation.

The prosthetics in their current state are a sculptural, wearable proof of concept - not yet capable of safely supporting weight or walking without external support. With the proper resources this prototype could be developed into a functional model which would enable Pata to move in ways that no performer in history ever has.
